salman khan new news-Free online academy...

Free online academy brings education to the masses
Khan Academy offers more than 2,400 free educational videos on everything from algebra to biology to finance.
Today, after I got the kids off to school, I ran four miles, wrote two blog posts, frittered a little time away on Facebook, cleaned a couple of rooms in the house, and came up with a plan to save human civilization.
I guess I should probably explain that last one. You see, along with everything else I do in a day, I've become addicted to the free educational videos from Khan Academy, a website where on any given day you can watch videos on everything from biology to finance to history to arithmetic. The site currently has a library of more than 2,400 videos and 150 practice exercises, and those numbers are growing everyday.

The face behind Khan Academy is 34-year-old Salman (or Sal) Khan. The former hedge fund analyst started making the videos to tutor a young cousin over the Web after he found out she was having a hard time in math. Soon, other friends and family members were asking for his help. Khan posted his videos on YouTube, and they instantly went viral.

Now, with backers like Bill Gates (whose kids reportedly love Khan Academy) Khan has been able to quit his day job and focus full-time on bringing a world-class education to everyone. He has been steadily working on increasing access to his videos and offering kids at cash-strapped schools extra tutoring in the subjects that vex them. But he's also working on making sure that his videos reach all kids — even those without access to regular schooling. Khan recently received $2 million from Google to translate his videos into Mandarin, Hindu and Spanish.

Aamir Khan avoids box-office clash

Actor Aamir Khan has blinked in the stalemate over the issue of a box-office clash between his film Dhuan and actor Ajay Devgn’s film Tezzreleasing on the same day i.e. Republic Day 2012. In a closed-door meeting held yesterday, Aamir has decided to move his film from January 26 to a later date.

However, filmmaker Karan Johar has immediately stepped in that space with his production, Agneepath which stars actor Hrithik Roshan as its protagonist.

“There was a meeting about the release date today morning, wherein they decided that Aamir won’t release Dhuan on January 26. It was announced earlier that Aamir intends to release the film on a later date as he wants to spend more time on the post-production (apparently Aamir wants to sit on the editing table along with the editor),” says a source, who is a part of the team.

When Karan learned that January 26 slot is going to be empty, he quickly jumped in as he wanted to release the film on the same day.

“Karan has got that slot. We’ve been hearing reports that film Tezz might not be able to meet the deadline as its shooting is still not complete. So, there is a chance that the film might not be ready by January 26. This has prompted Karan to take the decision of releasing his film on that date,” says the source.

About Ajay’s film racing against time to meet the deadline, producer of Tezz, Ratan Jain said, “If we were ready to face Aamir Khan then,we are ready to face competition from Hrithik Roshan and Sanjay Dutt too. We are working against time to complete the film within deadline.” He added, “I don’t think Karan knows that we have already announced our release date. There is no question of us moving the film to another date

aishwarya’s ad-on therapy

My Khabri Sher Lock Holmes says mommy-to-be Aishwarya Rai Bachchan recently shot an ad film to promote a soap brand she endorses in which her baby bump is pretty clearly visible. It’s the first time that it will be seen by the world because so far, the actor has refrained from making any
kind of public appearances ever since the news of her pregnancy broke.
The previous campaign featured Aishwarya with her husband-actor Abhishek Bachchan where the duo was seen romancing each other inside a house. This time, the concept has been written and put together in a specific manner that allows Ash to shoot with ease. However, the bump was bigger than most expected and concealing it was tough.

I wonder what the husband, father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan and mother-in-law Jaya Bachchan have to say about that?
